Our January Issue is Climbing the Walls

The January issue of Thunder Roads West Virginia rides the Wall of Death! When the Daniels family brought its 50-year-old motordrome to Mountainfest this past summer they were keeping a century-old motorcycle daredevil tradition alive. Theirs is one of only two motordromes still in existence today. Daniels talked with Thunder Roads West Virginia about what it’s like to ride the walls of this giant wooden barrel at speeds up to 50 miles per hour. Then, we take you to Lewisburg, West Virginia. This southeastern town of 3,800 residents was recently voted the “Coolest Small Town in America” and we went there to see why every biker should put a trip to Lewisburg on their bucket list. Those stories and many other features, as well as our host of monthly columns, is available free right now at all of our advertisers. Pick up your copy today before they’re gone! TRWV-TV Goes Vertical!

TRWV-TV peers down over the Wall of Death this month, capturing the excitement of these motorcycle daredevils as they put their lives on the line to keep a century-old tradition alive. Watching them circle the motordrome at speeds reaching 50 miles per hours is a thrill you simply have to see to believe. Be sure to catch the amazing video as Don Daniels, II rolls the 80-year-old Indian 101 Scout around this vertical board wall as he sits on the bike sideways with his hands off the controls! TRWV-TV also travels to Lewisburg for a video taste of the Coolest Small Town in America. And we roll down the Elk River Scenic Drive, this month’s Hidden Highway. TRWV-TV is the Internet television show ripped from the pages of Thunder Roads West Virginia. You cane see the January issue, as well as all of our past shows by clicking here.

Texting Kills

More than 3,000 Americans were killed by distracted drivers in 2010, and the problem grows worse every day. Thunder Roads West Virginia believes that legislative action is necessary to stop this needless loss of life. Please join with us in writing to your state delegates and senators, asking them to ban drivers from texting while operating a motor vehicle. 38 states have banned texting while driving, but West Virginia continues to place texting above human life. For more information on the subject, please read the Letter from the Editor in our January issue of the magazine. To find the email addresses for your representatives in Charleston, just enter your zip code at http://www.legis.state.wv.us/Districts/district_zip/zipmems.cfm. The life you save could be your own.

Youngen's Memorial Toy Run

Bikers in the Fairmont area came out in force this past Saturday for the Youngen’s Memorial Toy Run. This was the fifth annual run in honor of Youngen, who was the founder of the Thinkin’ Ink Tattoos Studios. The ride went kickstands up from Petie’s in Fairmont and ended at Santana’s in Morgantown. More than 80 bikes took part in the run, generating four truckloads of toys and $1,000 in cash. The bounty will be distributed to local children by The Salvation Army. Thunder Roads West Virginia congratulates Thinkin’ Ink Tattoo Studios, Billy the Kidz Bike Works, and Grump and Traci for sponsoring a great run. - Photos by Earl Nuzum (click on one to enlarge)
